Terrence Jones, Director of the Democratic Governance Group

Terence Jones has over 37 years of experience in development cooperation, and served as Resident Representative/Resident Coordinator of UNDP/UN in Bhutan, Malawi, and Philippines. He served also in senior management positions in Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, and spent three years on secondment to FAO in Rome. Since returning to New York in July 2003 he directed the Capacity Development Group of the Bureau of Development Policy. In  that capacity he was responsible for i) representing UNDP in the OECD/DAC Working Party on Aid Effectiveness, and coordinating the contribution of the United Nations to the Paris Declaration of March 2005 and its follow-up; ii) representing UNDP in the UNDG programme group and leading UNDP work on simplification and harmonization of programme policy and operations; iii) directing UNDP’s Capacity Development strategy, including rolling out a series of capacity development diagnostic instruments and priority cross-cutting strategies, both within UNDP and in the context of UNDG; iv) managing the Group, including two operational trust funds, Capacity 2015, and PPPUE, including coordinating BDP work on private sector development. Since April 2007 Terence acted as Deputy Director of BDP, working on several corporate initiatives and pursuing the realignment of BDP. Since November 2007 Terence has directed the Democratic Governance Group of BDP.
