Roger Hällhag
Graduated in Economics and Business Administration from Stockholm School of Economics (HHS) in 1989, Roger Hällhag has built a global scope expertise in democratization, non-partisan and party politics, education and development policy.
Starting out at the leadership of Sweden’s school students’ union, Mr. Hällhag headed its European network, was deputy chair of the national youth council and chair of the anti-apartheid movement. Later getting involved with Swedish social democracy, he managed international affairs at youth and party level, and was president of the International Union of Socialist Youth 1991-1995.
Briefly joining Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1994, Mr. Hällhag was principal secretary to the cross-party committee designing Sweden's party-related democracy assistance and an evaluation consultant. Then he served as political advisor and policy coordinator to Ministers of Defence 1994-1995 and 1998 and the Prime Minister 1998-2004, focusing on global development, peace and security and other 'foreign' affairs. After having headed International IDEA’s 2004-2006 Programme of research and dialogue with Political Parties, Mr. Hällhag is now a freelance writer and consultant.
