Capacity Building Training for Moldovan Election Officials in July, 2008

The ACEEEO Secretariat is organizing a training for the members of the Central Election Commission of Moldova in order to build sustainable institutional technical capacity and skills to administer elections and referenda. The training will focus on organizational and technical skills necessary for administering elections and referenda, planning and assuring human resources for elections, conflict management and handling legal complaints. Training agenda was finalized during a preparatory meeting to be held at the ACEEEO Secretariat, Budapest, on April 21-22. For more information please ask the ACE focal persons at aceeeo@aceeeo.org.

Seminar for international observers in St. Petersburg

Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States jointly with the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation held the Seminar for international observers and advisers at the elections to the public authorities in St. Petersburg on 11-12 February 2008. The seminar aimed at rendering practical assistance to international observers participating in monitoring of elections in CIS countries in  2008.  Besides practical trainings, also round tables were held discussing „Just and fair elections in the context of pan-European political dialogue”, „Exchange of experience in organizing and holding of elections in member states of the CIS, Council of Europe, the Nordic Council and the OSCE”.

Celebration of Global Elections Day
In 2008 the Global Election Day was held on 7 February in ACEEEO member states. The main goals of this day are: confirming our belief in the irreversibility of democratic processes; informing the public of new achievements and challenges related to various types of voting systems; calling the attention of parliaments, governments, politicians and world leaders about the important leadership role they play in promoting a culture of democracy and high levels of voter participation; influencing first-time voters and young voters to commit themselves to democratic values.

April 6, 2008
