Following the tragic death of the
former President, Boris Trajkovski, in an airplane crash on 26 February 2004 an
early Presidential election took place on 14 and 28 April, 2006. The election
for presidency was held according to Two Round System. To be elected in the
first round, the winning candidate must receive the votes of a majority of the
total number of registered voters. If no candidate secures an election victory,
a second round is held in two weeks between the two candidates who obtained the
most votes. The candidate who obtains the most votes in the second round is
elected, but only if a majority of registered voters cast votes. To find out
