The monarchy is hereditary.In the House of Assembly, 7 members are elected by popular vote to serve 5-year terms, 2 members are appointed ex officio to serve 5-year terms and 2 members are appointed by members to serve 5-year terms.

General elections were held in Anguilla on 21 February 2005. They were won by the Anguilla National Front, an alliance of the Anguilla National Alliance and the Anguilla Democratic Party, which took four of the seven elected seats in the House of Assembly.
