CMG.gifThe President is elected by popular vote to serve a 7-year term. In the National Assembly (Assemblee Nationale) 180 members are elected by direct popular vote to serve 5-year terms. The president can either lengthen or shorten the term of the legislature.

Politics of Cameroon takes place in a framework of a unitary presidential republic, whereby the President of Cameroon is both head of state and head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the National Assembly of Cameroon.
