About UJRC
Al Urdun Al Jadid Research Center (UJRC) is an independent think tank established in 1990. It works for democratic development in Jordan and the Arab world through conducting scientific research, managing debates and training, and organizing workshops and conferences with regional and international institutions. UJRC possesses an active Elections and Parliament program which analyses elections in Jordan, the Arab region, and the world at large.
Comoros Legislative election 2009
Legislative elections was held in Comoros on 2 August 2009; though originally set for July 2009, they were postponed until after a constitutional referendum was held to propose extension to the current presidential term for two years to hold all elections at the same time in 2011, as well as reform the constitutional structure of the Comoros to save money. The Iraqi Kurdistan legislative elections of 2009 took place on
25 July 2009. A total of 2.5 million citizens of Iraqi Kurdistan were eligible to vote for the parliamentary and presidential elections. Read more
Iraqi Kurdistan presidential election 2009
The Iraqi Kurdistan presidential elections of 2009 took place on
25 July 2009, coinciding with the Iraqi Kurdistan parliamentary
elections of 2009. A total of 2.5 million citizens of Iraqi Kurdistan
were eligible to vote for the parliamentary and presidential elections.
It is the first time that the president of Iraqi Kurdistan was chosen directly through popular votes. Read more
Mauritania Presidential Elections 2009
General Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, who ousted Mauritania's first democratically elected leader in a coup last year, has won the desert nation's presidential election in the first round with 52.58 of the vote in provisional results. The opposition dismissed the result as a "charade". Read more

Mauritania's election, the first since a coup in the desert state last August, was due to take place on June 6 but opposition parties had said they would boycott the poll in protest at the military government's election timetable. Read more

Morocco Local Elections 2009
Modernity and Authenticity Party wins around 20 percent of nearly 28,000 Moroccan local council seats.
A new party led by a politician close to Morocco's King Mohammed VI emerged victorious in the local elections on June 12. Read more
Lebanese Parliamentary elections 2009
Parliamentary elections were held in Lebanon on 7 June 2009.
Preliminary results indicated that the turnout had been as high as 55%. The March 14 Alliance garnered 71 seats in the 128-member parliament, while the March 8 Alliance won 57 seats. This result is virtually the same as the result from the election in 2005. Read more

Postponement of elections
A presidential decree was issued on 5 June to postpone the presidential elections scheduled to take place on 6 June. The election date will be determined later by a decree.

Low turnout at parliamentary election
Kuwaitis voted on Saturday with little hope that their third election in three years will end a power struggle between parliament and the ruling family cabinet that has held up key economic reforms. Turnout was low as expected. Read full news
Algeria Presidential Elections 2009
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika won 90.24 percent of the vote in a presidential election, extending his hold over Algeria, an oil producer with a lingering Islamist insurgency.
The result gives Bouteflika, 72, a third five-year term as president and leaves him in power until 2014. Read More
Iraq Provincial Elections 2009
Governorate or provincial elections were held in Iraq on 31 January 2009, to replace the local councils in fourteen of the eighteen governorates of Iraq that were elected in the Iraqi governorate elections of 2005, where 14,431 candidates - including 3,912 women - contested 444 seats.
