Conferences and Workshops
Local Democracy Assessment in Jordan: International IDEA and UJRC workshop
International IDEA, together with UJRC, are conducting a 3-day consecutive training workshop entitled: “State of Local Democracy in the Arab World: Local Democracy Assessment in Jordan”. This will be held on July 14 to 16, 2008, at Holiday Inn Hotel, Amman, Jordan
This workshop is part of International IDEA’s project “State of Local Democracy (SoLD) Assessment in the Arab World”, involving similar activities in four countries: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Yemen. This research project will be implemented over a period of 18 months, as part of IDEA’s programme in the Arab World.
The project is implemented with collaboration of local partner organizations, where UJRC is the implementing organization in Jordan. UJRC is also the ACE regional electoral resources centre for the Arab region.
The main focus of the workshop is assessing the level of local democracy in four municipalities in Jordan: Rusaifah, Maan, Mafraq and Jarash.
Regional Workshop on "Women in Arab Parliaments"
The United Nations Development Programme, through its Parliamentary Development Initiative in the Arab Region, in an effort to assess the progress of Arab women at the level of legislative elections and parliament, organized a regional seminar “Women in Arab Parliaments: Progress, Stagnation or Regression?” on the 9th and 10th of July 2008 in Beirut, Lebanon.
The seminar brought together participants from Arab Parliaments, women candidates in recent elections, representatives of political parties and civil society organizations, and a number of Arab and international experts.
