Politics in New Caledonia

(courtesy of wikipedia)

Politics of New Caledonia takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic French overseas country, whereby the President of the Government is the head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Congress. The party system is dominated by the conservative Rally for Caledonia in the Republic and the separatist National Union for Independence-Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front FLNKS, though in the last years the liberal Future Together became the second political force. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
