Comments: Constitution 2008 (2008) 26. Unless otherwise provided in this Constitution, every citizen of the Maldives eighteen years of age or older has the right: (a) to vote in elections, and in public referendums, which shall be held by secret ballot Elections (General) Act (2008) 5. (a) To all elections to which this Act applies, excluding the individuals specified in subsection (b), all Maldivian citizens above 18 years have the right to vote in such elections. (b) An individual who has been convicted of a criminal offence and sentenced to imprisonment for a period of more than 5 years and who is serving that sentence shall be exempted from the right to vote in elections.
