Respuestas The President of the Maldives is elected in the following stages: (i) Candidates are screened by the Commissioner of Elections. Their names are announced to Parliament and the public. (ii) 3 days after, the Parliament elects one of these nominees in a secret ballot. If no candidate obtains an absolute majority of votes, a run-off between the 2 strongest candidates is held. If the candidate fails to obtain an absolute majority, the candidacy process will have start all over again. (iii) The winning candidate has to be confirmed in a popular referendum by 51% of the valid votes. If the candidate fails to obtain an absolute majority, the candidacy process will have to start all over again.
