Head of State


Question:How is the Head of State selected?
Answer(s): c. Directly elected in general elections (absolute majority with 2nd round if necessary)
Comments: The President shall be elected by the citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic for a term of 5 years. The same person cannot be elected President for more than two terms. A candidate for presidency shall be considered elected, if in the first round of the voting he/she has obtained more than half of votes of all voters participating in the elections. If more than two candidates for presidency were included into a ballot and none of them was elected, the Central Election Commission shall call a repeat voting for the two candidates who obtained the biggest number of votes. In the repeat voting, a candidate shall be considered elected, if he/she has obtained the largest number of votes of the participating voters.
