Answer(s): c. Directly elected in general elections (absolute majority with 2nd round if necessary)
Comments: A Presidential candidate shall be declared as a winner, only if he got a majority of valid votes cast more than the other contestants. If in the Presidential elections, contestants with the most votes tie, the Presidential election shall be repeated.

Comments: There shall be a Chief Minister appointed by the President from amongst members of the House of Representatives. The Chief Minister shall be the Leader of Government business of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in the House of Representatives.

Electoral System (Chamber 1)


Question:What is the electoral system for Chamber 1 of the national legislature?
Answer(s): a. Plurality (FPTP)

Comments: The House of Representatives shall consist of elected members, nominated members, women members, all Regional Commissioners appointed in the regions of Zanzibar and the Attorney General. Every constituency shall elect one person to be member of the House of Representatives. 30% of all elected members of the House of representatives shall be women members recommended by every political party winning more than 10% of seats.
