Politics in Poland

(courtesy of wikipedia)

The politics of Poland take place in the framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, whereby the Prime Minister of Poland is the head of government and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of parliament, the Sejm and the Senate. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

Recent elections in Poland

Pre-term parliamentary elections for both houses of parliament (Sejm and Senate) were held in Poland on 21 October 2007 after the Sejm voted to dissolve itself on 7 September 2007. The election took therefore place 2 years earlier than the maximum 4 year tenure of the Polish Parliament, the previous elections having been in September 2005 (parliamentary election results in 2005, here). Parties were competing 460 seats in the Sejm and all 100 seats in the Senate. Results of elections can be found here.
