  • Jun 06, 2010: Sweden: 9th Horn of Africa Conference with Focus on Somalia, Somalia International Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) (2010) Somalia International Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) in Cooperation with Horn of Africa Scholars in Europe & USA, and Horn of Africa Associations in Lund, Sweden; is organizing "9th Horn of Africa Conference with Focus on Somalia" discussing the Role of Democratic Governance versus Sectarian Politics in Somalia.

     The conference gathers civics, scholars, practitioners, political leaders, and businesswomen

    and men to share their experience and to explore and critically examine the above issues and
    connections concerning democracy and respect for human rights and their links to peace,
    security, and development.
    The purpose of the conference is to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in Somalia with new
    ideas and tools to enable them to act progressively and effectively in favor of peace building,
    democracy, good governance, rule of law and development and thereby effect long-term
    institutional change in Somalia that can respond to the needs of the Somali society. The
    purpose also includes building capacities of stakeholders, including civil society and political
    leaders to anticipate and respond to potentially violent conflicts.
     
    The objective of the conference is to:
    • Identify and develop policy options to initiate and strengthen democratic governance,
    peace and security in Somalia, avoiding sectarian politics.
    • Encourage and facilitate dialogue between stakeholders to stimulate communitydriven
    solutions to sectarian politics.
    • Enable networking among stakeholders in the civil society and political leaders on
    developing democratic governance in Somalia.
  • Mar 12, 2010: Double Seminar: "The Parliamentarian Election and the 'Tweeter Revolution' in the Republic of Moldova from April 2009: after one year considerations" AND "Ukraine: Presidential elections 2010" On March 12, 2010, the Uppsala Centre for Russian Studies is holding a double seminar on political developments in Moldova and Ukraine. The guest speakers will be Dr. Sergey Kurbarov from Academy of Pedagogical Sciences in Kiev, Ukraine and Dr. Ludmila Cojari from Free International University in Chisenau, Moldova. The discussion will be focused on the 2009 parliamentary elections in Moldova and the recent 2010 presidential elections in Ukraine.
  • Jun 12, 2009: ACE Annual Meeting for Regional Centres This year's annual meeting for the regional election research centres took place at International IDEA's premises, with the support of UNDEF. All ACE regional centres were represented at the meetings and workshops, which aimed to enhance the cooperation among the regional centres.
  • Jun 09, 2009: French Coordination Meeting for ACE Regional Centres and Partners (Goree, CEI/CENI, Election Canada) The ACE Secretariat and International IDEA facilitated a meeting for the French speaking ACE regional centres (Goree and CEI/CENI) as well as ACE partners (Elections Canada, International IDEA) at the International IDEA premises. The meeting served as a basis for enhancing future cooperation and coordination of future activities.
  • Jun 09, 2009: Spanish Coordination Meeting for ACE Regional Centres (IFE, JNE) The ACE Secretariat and International IDEA facilitated a meeting for the Spanish speaking ACE regional centres (IFE and JNE) at the International IDEA premises. The meeting served as a basis for enhancing future cooperation and coordination of future activities.
