Status of Electoral Law

Question:What is the status of the electoral law governing national elections?
Answer(s): a. Part of Constitution
b. Separate legislation
Comments: The basic provisions about the electoral regime are embodied in the Constitution, but a separate and specific legislation details all aspects related to the preparation, organization and surveillance of elections, including the legal regime of political parties (Electoral Law). The Electoral Law entitles the electoral management body (JCE) to dictate all the measures it deems adequate for the smooth development of the electoral processes.
