Up to date, I have seventeen years (17) of work experience in the areas of Democracy and Governance and very especially in Electoral affairs. This experience I obtained by working in my home country (Sri Lanka) as well as in countries of the Asian Region and some countries in the Middle-East region where I served in the different capacities. I have vast experience in the areas of voter registration, civic voter education, election logistical support, election related security, capacity development and of working with electoral management bodies and political parties, media and election office staff, staff training, and field operations. Additionally by working in different countries and institutions, I have experienced working in diverse environments as well as have experience in the widely different cultural and social values in Asian and Middle-East societies. Moreover due to my work in the said countries in stable and non-stable conditions I gained experience in working with people/officials who have different capacities especially in the subjects of Governance and Electoral affairs. Besides that I have a theoretical practical knowledge in other fundamental core components of project implementation such as gender, transparency, accountability and environments etc. Furthermore I have the skills and experience in problem solving, leadership, planning & organizing and negotiation. In addition I also have a theoretical knowledge and experience in project monitoring & evaluation using different tools as well as project management with a result based approach. I have experience working in hazardous environments as well as tight security environments. Professionally I completed a first aid training certificate course in ‘advanced security in the field, staff safety, health and welfare’ under the supervision of the United Nation – Department of Safety and Security (UN DSS) adapting it to year 2005. I completed the European Union mission ‘training course on Civilian Personal of Peace-keeping, Peace-building Operation & Election monitoring’ at the school of Scouola Superiore Sant’ Anna in Pisa Italy. My highest educational qualification is a Masters Degree in Development Studies – MA, relating to Sustainable International Development (MA-SID) from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management in Brandies University in USA. I have also completed other short term courses in the field of democracy, governance and conflict.
