Catalina Uribe BurcherAs Democracy, Conflict and Security Officer at International IDEA, I work on research and policy promotion on various topics, mainly security threats to democratic processes and election-related violence. I also collaborate with the Swedish Section of the International Commission of Jurists on a trial observation project focused on Western Sahara, as well as with the NGO Schools for the Future on violence prevention project in El Salvador. Growing up in Medellín (Colombia), I have always been interested in understanding and working on peace and security. Before joining IDEA I worked as Coordinator of the Victims’ Programme for the Medellin Municipality and as a legal consultant for the Colombian Embassy in Stockholm. I have also served as international consultant for various NGOs (e.g. Civis), as a teacher and researcher on human rights, transitional justice and criminal law for the University of Antioquia and University EAFIT in Colombia, and as a private attorney. My professional experience includes Sweden, Colombia, Mexico, USA, West and Southern Africa, and the Baltic States (2005-2012). |
