Chencho Gyalmo DorjeeI work as the Programme Analyst within the democratic governance team at the UNDP Bhutan country office. I manage the support to the Elections Commission of Bhutan (ECB) office portfolio currently. Bhutan held its first historic democratic elections in 2008. In 2008, UNDP was the only development partner to be accepted by the Government to assist the ECB. As the UNDP programme manager to the implementing partner the ECB, we successfully provided support to enhance transparency and advocacy through awareness and sensitization activities and provision of audio visual equipment to all 205 local governments. This enabled the public to play a proactive role and participate in the electrol process and exercise their rights effectively through the information and facts made available to them. UNDP is currently supporting the first nationally organised local government elections planned for June 27,2011. Before joining the UN in 2007, i worked as a development journalist. I completed my master's degree in social sciences in 2006. |
