The Constituent Assembly and the drafting of a new Constitution provide an opportunity for Ecuador to show its commitment to the 2007 UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Of more relevance for the electoral process are the provisions related to the political participation in national elections and also the use of indigenous languages.
