Statutory provisions providing for a suitable set of obligations, governed by principles of accountability and transparency, for the registration of political parties are lacking. Such provisions would encourage the development of internal and democratic structures and accountability and include provisions relating to the transparent financing of political parties. Furthermore, a statutory instrument providing for the regulation of campaign finances would encourage greater accountability and serve to reduce the possibility of misuse of state resources during campaigns.
