Jawed HabibiJawed Habibi is a senior governance and electoral expert with over 18 years of experience supporting democratic processes in conflict and post-conflict settings. He has served in senior advisory and leadership roles with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and national electoral institutions in Afghanistan. He currently serves as Senior Electoral Affairs Officer with UNAMI, where he leads electoral operations support for national elections, providing strategic and technical advice on voter registration, electoral systems, results management, and institutional reform under a Security Council mandate. His work has contributed to the delivery of credible and technically sound elections in complex political environments. Previously, he served as Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and Acting CEO of the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan, where he led nationwide electoral operations and coordinated with government institutions, international partners, and civil society stakeholders. He also advised the Ministry of Finance on electoral funding and donor coordination. Jawed holds a Master of Science in International Development from the University of Glasgow and is fluent in English, Arabic, Persian (Dari), and Pashto. His expertise spans electoral reform, governance, programme management, and partnership development, with a strong focus on strengthening institutions and supporting inclusive and accountable political processes. |
