Alexander Wyeth RuthvenRuthven spent more than a decade in politics as a speechwriter, communications director and campaign strategist. Ruthven served as a short-term observer to the 1994 and 2000 presidential elections in Mexico. Ruthven is a veteran of more than two dozen campaigns in a variety of roles, including communications director and deputy legal counsel for the South Carolina Democratic Party during the 2004 election cycle. Ruthven managed a statewide network of attorneys and poll watchers who reported voter incidents and irregularities on Election Day. For the 2004 Democratic Presidential Primary, he conducted legal research on candidate eligibility and Voting Rights Act compliance, oversaw the distribution of 1.1 million ballots, and supervised voting integrity operations in the S.C. Democratic Party Boiler Room on Primary Day. Ruthven’s experience also includes work as chief speechwriter to South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges and staff assistant for Senator Ernest F. Hollings.He also served as press secretary to Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas. In this role, Ruthven was responsible for crafting messaging for a wide variety of legislative initiatives pending before the House Ways and Means Committee. |
