Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and Code of Conduct, United Nations (2005)

The Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and the Code of Conduct for International Election Observers were signed on October 27, 2005, at the United Nations in New York. These documents are the result of many years of talks and negotiations. International election observation plays a fundamental role in providing accurate and impartial assessments about the nature of electoral processes. The aim of this declaration is to give comprehensive and well-established standards to election observation missions all around the world. 23 international organizations and bodies signed the Declaration and the Code of Conduct. Since 2005, twelve organizations recognized and endorsed these documents worldwide.
