Electoral Commission of Ghana

"The Electoral Commission is one of the governance institutions provided for under the 1992 constitution. The Commission was established by the Electoral Commission Act (Act 451) of 1993. It was set up purposely to manage the conduct of all public elections and to handle all matters directly relating to the conduct of elections in the country. It is made up of 7 members – a chairman, 2 deputy chairmen and 4 other members. The commission has administrative and regulatory powers."

EISA deployed a pre-election assessment mission (PAM) to Ghana from 25 September to 1 October 2016. The PAM was tasked to assess the pre-election and political context in Ghana, and to determine whether conditions exist for the conduct of democratic elections on 07 December 2016. The mission also examined the state of preparedness for the elections by key stakeholders such as the Electoral Commission of Ghana, political parties, and civil society organisations. This PAM report served as a reference document for international Election Observer Missions (EOMs) that were deployed to observe the elections.
