Upholding Democracy through Ballots: Presidential and Provincial Elections in Afghanistan 2009: This report, by The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) Foundation describes the presidential and provincial elections that took place in 2009. Observers from many different countries were deployed to 15 provinces to observe the election held on august 20, 2009. A network was established with a domestic election observation group in Afghanistan, Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA). This report addresses a variety of concerns related to the election including security and the participation of women.
