Azerbaijan: Proposal to cancel 2010 parliamentary elections hits road block, EurasiaNet (2009)

The article writes about the proposal of canceling 2010 parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, which was brought up by some politicians of the governing party in November 2009. The author of the initiative suggested to postpone elections "until Karabagh problem is solved", and explained that postponing elections will allow to save money to increase pensions. Later, some governing party members explained this as a joke, but opposition is very concerned about such developments, explaining that a few years ago postponing presidential elections seemed a joke, too but it is a reality now.
