Western observers call Belarus election a 'failure', VOA News (2010)

This article reports on the first reports on the integrity of the elections in Belarus. The European Union will likely withdraw its offer of $4 billion in credits to President Lukashenko if he carried out a free and fair election. The election observer team of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) stated that the election was a "failure". The main controversy turnout around the secret counting of votes by government employees. 91% of the eligible voters cast their ballots, and Mr. Lukashenko received 79.7% of the votes (in 2006, he received 83%).
