The President is elected by popular vote to serve a 7-year term. In the People's National Assembly (Assemblee Nationale Populaire) 114 members are elected by direct popular vote to serve 5-year terms.

According to the 2010 Constitution voted and adopted by the CNT, the President serves for a 5 year term and is re-elected only once.
