India: Chawla seeks protection for election commissioners from sacking, The Times of India (2010)
The Chief Election Commissioner, Navin Chawla, is urging the government to pass a constitutional amendment that would protect the election commissioners from arbitrary sacking. Even though there is a measure currently in place that protects the Chief Election Commissioners, Chawla argues that it should be extended to other election commissioners as well and thus strengthen the integrity and independence of the Commission.
