India: Election commission not mandated to hold simulaneous elections: CEC, The Indian Journal (2010)
This article presents the Indian Chief Election Commission's latest statements. First of all, the CEC does not believe that the Election Commission is mandated to hold simultaneous elections (in the lower House of the Parliament and in State Assemblies). Furthermore, CEC Navin Chawla expressed his satisfaction for the success of the Photo Identity Card scheme than now covers 82% of the voters. The Electronic Voting Machines will function properly, he assured.
