Referendum in Moldova invalid because of poor voter turnout (ITAR-TASS, 2010)
The constitutional referendum on resuming the nation-wide election of Moldova’s president was declared invalid because of poor voter turnout, Eugeniu Stirbu, the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of Moldova, stated on Thursday, presenting the final results of the voting. According to the final results, 30.29 percent of the voters went to the polls, while the required minimum was 33.33 percent. Among those who voted, 87.83 percent were for the return to the nation-wide presidential election and 12.17 percent against.
