New Zealand: Law change allows serving police to stand in local elections, Radio New Zealand (2010)
This article discusses the new and controversial bill allowing serving police to become local body politicians. According to the former legislation, police constables, officers and supervisors had to go on leave if they wanted to run for elections, and they had to quit their positions if elected. The Green Party strongly opposed this bill.
