This article discusses the lack of candidates for the upcoming local elections in New Zealand. The Local Government Forum is encouraging people to stand for councils, as only the deadline for the registration is only ten days away. This issue show a general apathy towards local elections in the country: in 2007, only 44% of the registered voters cast a ballot in the local elections.
