UN condemns Sudan crackdown on pro-reform rally, The New York Times (2009)
Three senior southern Sudanese politicians were arrested during the rally calling for reforms ahead of the national and presidential elections, organized by the Sudan's People Liberation Movement and some other opposition groups. The UN expressed its concern, as such reactions and consequent developments might not only have an adverse effect on the peaceful conduct of elections, but also on the overall peace in the country.
