South Africa: Mass resignation costs IEC, IOL (2011)

A large number of ANC members have decided to resign as councillors to keep their government jobs and more resignations are still coming in. This results in larger cost for the IEC as it has to run by-election. IEC spokeswoman, Kate Bapela logistical arrangements including hiring and traing staff, print ballot papers and distribute pamphlets come at a cost.
