Description of Electoral System:

The President is elected by popular vote to serve a 6-year term. In the Senate (Senado) 24 members are elected by popular vote to serve 6-year terms. In the House of Representatives (Kapulungan Ng Mga Kinatawan) 214 members are elected by popular vote to serve 3-year terms. One-half of the members are elected every three years. The Constitution prohibits the House of Representatives from having more than 250 members.

 

 

Forthcoming Elections

 2010 NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTIONS

The COMELEC, in Resolution No. 8646, promulgated July 14, 2009; said the election period will run from January 10, 2010 until June 9, 2010.

Campaign period for candidates for President, Vice-President, Senators and Party-List groups: February 9, 2010 - May 8, 2010.

Campaign period for candidates for members of the House of Representatives and elective provincial, city and municipal officials: March 26, 2010 - May 8, 2010.

Voting day : May 10, 2010
Overseas absentee voters will run until 3:00 PM (Philippine Time).
The country’s voters:  7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
