Riccardo Barranca- More than ten years of media and communication experience in professional and leadership positions, also in post conflict countries, working with the United Nations, the European Commission, international organisations and NGOs in the fields of voter education and electoral assistance, media monitoring, media analysis and media relations. - From 1995 to 2001 as director of the Osservatorio di Pavia, the first Italian media research institute, established the media monitoring of the Italian public broadcaster RAI; developed the methodology of media monitoring and coordinated the work of some 60 researchers, both during election campaigns and non-electoral periods. - Introduced the methodology of media monitoring and media analysis to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights [ODIHR] of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe [OSCE], and elaborate the terms of reference for media analysts in the OSCE / ODIHR Election Observation Missions. - Since 1998 worked with the EC to establish the standards for election observation and introduce media monitoring within the EOMs of the European Union. Developed the first training courses for the EU observers. - Since 2005 worked within the UN system as adviser to election and media commissions in voter education, media development and external relations. |
