Francesca Marzatico

Dr. Francesca Marzatico is the European Union Senior Legal Expert to the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission. Prior to this assignment Dr. Marzatico was the Head of Election Support Unit at the International Organization for Migration since October 2007. In this capacity she has supported the creation of the unit as well as the consolidation of IOM 's institutional capacity related to the electoral processes, participation and democratization. She joined IOM in 2005, from the Ombudsperson Institution in Kosovo where she was the Legal Advisor on Non-discrimination, Gender Equality and Children’s rights. She has written and consulted widely in fields of human rights, participation, democratization and children's rights. She holds a PhD on Philosophy of Human Rights and has been lecturer at the Master in Peacekeeping Management of the University of Turin in Italy.
