Canada's Democracy Week is a new civic education initiative organized by Elections Canada, a non-partisan agency created by Parliament. This year, Canada's Democracy Week will be held from September 12 to 16, 2011. Canada's Democracy Week celebrates Canada's democracy and promotes the importance of civic education and voting. It supports the United Nations' International Day of Democracy on September 15 and extends the celebration with a week of activities to highlight Canada's democratic traditions and achievements.
