Description of Electoral System

The President of the Council is elected by the National Assembly to serve a 5-year term. In the National Assembly of People's Power (Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular) 609 members are elected by direct vote to serve 5-year terms. The National Assembly is elected from slates approved by special candidacy commissions.
