The President is elected by popular vote to serve a 4-year term. The Governor is elected by popular vote to serve a 4-year term. In the Senate 29 members are elected by popular vote to serve 4-year terms. In the House of Representatives 51 members are elected by popular vote to serve 4-year terms.

The results of the Puerto Rico General Elections of November 2, 2004 were announced by the State Commission of Elections (CEE-PUR), who certified Aníbal Acevedo Vilá as Governor of Puerto Rico, and Luis Fortuño as Resident Commissioner, while the Senate and the House of Representatives was dominated by the New Progressive Party.
