Description of Electoral System:(Courtesy of IFES election guide) The President is elected by popular vote to serve a 5-year term. In the National Assembly (Azgayin Zhoghov) 131 members are elected by popular vote to serve 4-year terms. 90 members elected by party list, 41 by direct vote.
Past electionsThe Elections to the National Assembley were held on 12 May, 2007. 131 deputies were elected for a four-year term of office: 90 seats were allocated by proportional party-list system and 41 seats by majoritarian system. The Republican Party of Armenia won 33,91 % of the votes, followed by the Prosperous Armenia (15,13%) and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (13,16%). The Rule of Law (7,05) and the Heritage (6,00%) parties had also passed the 5 percent electoral threshold necessary to win a seat in Azgayin Zhoghov. Besides representatives of these parties, additional 17 candidates managed to obtain a mandate .
