Financial donations to political parties and candidates

To reduce the influence of wealthy benefactors over politics, some countries limit the maximum size of donations to political parties or candidates especially in relation to election campaigns.

Limiting contributions for non-election specific related periods can also help to reduce the risk of donors trying to avoid campaign contribution limits by making large donations well ahead of elections.
