In many cases the election management authority posts voter registration materials on its website. It may choose from several options for e-registration that is, providing registration materials electronically. Among the options are the following:
- The election management authority’s website contains comprehensive information for voters, including information on registration. The information is limited to descriptions and explanations. Actual registration forms are not posted on the site;
- It also contains downloadable forms. Someone wanting to register must print the form, complete it and return it to the election management authority. This approach is suitable for jurisdictions where security measures are needed in the registration process for example, the requirement that one or more registered voters witness a voter registration application;
- The election management authority provides full e-registration services. From its website, a voter may be able to check the information in his or her personal voter registration record, or even update the record. Someone not yet registered may initiate the process directly on the website. In some cases the voter may complete all these tasks without ever printing a form or a file from the website. Obviously, if a witness to the voter registration process is required, full e-registration is not practical.
