I have decided to devote the rest of my life to the pursuit of Good Governance through free, fair, transparent, and credible elections throughout the world, especially in troubled countries so long as my weakening body can support my willing soul. The reason for my resolve is that, my 17 years service as an officer in the Ghana Armed Forces afforded me the opportunity to serve in various Command, Administrative and Logistics positions in Peacekeeping Missions in the following countries: • Lebanon. Peacekeeping operations with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL, 1990, 1992, 1995/96, 1999/2000, 2002/2003). • Democratic Republic of Congo. Military Observer with the United Nations Mission in Congo (MONUC, 2001/2002). • Liberia. Peacekeeping Operations with ECOWAS Sub-Regional Mission in Liberia (ECOMOG, 1993). During this period I came face to face with atrocities committed by man against fellow man as a result of conflicts resulting mainly from lack of good governance, undemocratic processes and tribal enslavement among others. My personal unpalatable experiences with victims of war/conflicts including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) especially women and children, separation of families, hunger, poor health and abject poverty especially in DR Congo and Liberia informed my resolve to devote my post military life to democracy and good governance. My interest is to pursue processes that would help prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democratic governance. In fact this is what I have been doing since I retired from active military service eight years ago and I would be extremely happy for assignments anywhere in the world to build up my new career. I have so far served in the following areas: 1. ECOWAS Elections Observer in Liberia (October-November 2011). 2. ECOWAS Elections Observer in Nigeria (2011). 3. UNV Regional Outreach/Training Adviser with UNDP-ELECT Project in Afghanistan (2009). 4. ECOWAS Elections Observer in Sierra Leone (2007). 5. ECOWAS elections Observer in Nigeria (2007). 6. UNV/UNMIL in Liberia as County Electoral Adviser (Operations)/Team Leader (2005) 7. UNV/UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan as Provincial Field Coordinator/ Team Leader (2004/2005). |
