Menang ThaddeusAfter having taught language and communication at the university for up to 30 years and taken part in active partisan politics in Cameroon for a decade following the country's return to pluralist democracy, I now work for the National Elections Observatory in Cameroon in the capacity of Adviser to the Chairperson. Naturally, I am no longer engaged in partisan politics. The National Elections Observatory is responsible for the supervision and control of elections in Cameroon and ensures, among other things, that election laws are strictly adhered to by all election stakeholders. It trains and deploys election monitors during elections to help it accomplish its mission. In my capacity as Adviser to the Chair, I advise on matters relating to organisation, capacity building, election monitoring and civic/voter education. I take an active part in all capacity building activities, strategic planning, course design and implementation as well as evaluation. I also play a leading role in the drafting of election monitoring reports and in general staff coordination. I have been active in election observation out of Cameroon and have indeed been a member of the African Union election monitoring missions to several African countries. As a researcher, I am interested in election management and governance issues in African countries. |
