Neel Kantha UpretyI am working as the chief election commissioner (chairperson) of election commission of Nepal. My involvement in election at various level of assignments (position) in the post conflict countries has been over 22 years. From planning of elections to policy decision on electioneering is my experience. I have worked for modernizing EMBs and decentralizing the functions of EMB into field offices. Capacity development of EMBs particularly training and capacity building of human resource, voters registration strategies and introduction of technology in managing electoral roll and making use of electronic machine for voting is my preferred jobs. Reform in electoral legislations and introduction of principle of electoral justice in the election process right away from registration to vote count is my area of interest and responsibility. An Electoral Dispute Resolution mechanism has been made mandatory for elections process to get legitimacy in the countries where I have taken responsibilities. I spent very productive part of my life in election management and hence feel like I eat, walk, speak, rest and sleep as well as wakeup with election. |
