The dichotomy between elections and conflicts is of particular interest to her. She has researched and advised on elections and electoral systems, constitutions and constitutionalism, the law of armed conflict (international humanitarian law) and conflict management. Some of the topics she has explored are: "An Examination of Legitimacy of Elections: Case Study of Electoral Management in Kenya 2002-2007"; and, "Elections, Peace and Security - Are Elections the Main Threats to the Relative Peace Situation in West Africa?" Amongst the organisations that Ms. Nyaga has worked with are: the defunct Constitution of Kenya Review Commission; the defunct Independent Review Commission (Kriegler Commission); the African Union, both as a researcher and election observer; and, the Red Cross disseminating international humanitarian law in regions facing conflicts such as Mt. Elgon region of Western Kenya in 2007. As part of the programme team with the USAID &DFID Parliamentary Support Program in Kenya, implemented by the State University of New York (SUNY), Ms. Nyaga deals with legislative review aspects, in particular, legislation aimed at reforming governance institutions.
