Barbara SmithBarbara Smith, Regional Coordinator, Election Observation and Democracy Support (EODS) project for the EC Barbara has worked on 23 different elections and referenda in 16 different countries, working as an election expert, trainer and/or observer for the EU, NDI , OSCE and UN and Carter Center as well as for ERIS. Much of her work over has been in support of domestic observer organisations in Africa. Her current role with EODS involves promoting sharing and improvement of observation methodology between different regional organisations and between regional observer citizen observer networks. Previous recent roles include heading up a project to support Domestic Observers in Libya with ERIS; with UNDP as the advisor to the Head of External Relations of the IEC in Afghanistan and for the Carter Center as head of mission in Sudan and Congo supporting domestic observers. The majority of Barbara’s experience has been in post conflict and transitional countries since starting out in Cambodia in 1992. Barbara holds a Master’s Degree in Business and Marketing from the College of Distributive Trades (London) and an Honours Degree in Biology from Keele University. |
